How can I help my children with their feelings?

Previous Next

Everybody handles their feelings differently, including your children. Your feelings don’t just go away if you ignore them. Feelings come out in different ways, like illness or addictions. Some people lash out at the people around them when they’re having a hard time emotionally.

Your children might show their feelings about the divorce by acting out or acting younger than they are. You might have to help them learn how to deal with their feelings so they don’t hurt themselves or others.

Here are some steps you can take:

  • Help your children figure out what they’re feeling.
  • Let them know that it's safe to talk to you about their feelings.
  • Talk openly and honestly with them about the divorce.
  • Work with your kids to figure out how they can feel better.
