Child support is usually paid until the child turns 18 or leaves high school. The parent who pays child support will probably continue paying even if

• he or she doesn’t see the child,
• he or she is in prison or is unemployed, or
• the parent receiving child support gets married or lives with someone else.

If you are supposed to be paying support and you are in prison or unemployed, call 800-228-KIDS to ask that your support amount be lowered.
